Austria stuns the Netherlands to win Group D at Euro 2024
Austria beats the Netherlands 3-2 in Berlin to secure a spot in the knockout rounds
The Netherlands had won their two previous major tournament encounters with Austria, but the Austrians pulled off a stunning upset in Berlin.
Austria came from behind twice to earn a dramatic 3-2 win over the Netherlands in Berlin on Tuesday night, securing top spot in Group D at Euro 2024.
The Netherlands took the lead through Cody Gakpo in the first half, but Austria leveled through Christoph Baumgartner just before the break. Memphis Depay restored the Dutch lead early in the second half, but Austria again hit back through Marko Arnautovic.
With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Austria captain Marcel Sabitzer popped up with a stunning winner in the 81st minute to send the Austrian fans into raptures.
The victory means Austria finish top of Group D on goal difference from France, who they will now face in the last 16.
